The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) has published the results of the 49th (Special) BCS examination. According to an official notification issued on Sunday night (19 October), a total of 1,219 candidates have passed the MCQ-type written examination.

The examination was held simultaneously across the country on 10 October. PSC sources said the schedule for the viva voce will be announced within the next week.

The commission has indicated that oral examinations are likely to begin about a week after the publication of the results.

According to available information, more than 312,000 candidates applied for the special BCS examination. Of these, around 176,670 candidates appeared in the test, representing 56.49 per cent of total applicants.

This means that, on average, about 456 candidates competed for each vacant post.

The PSC published the recruitment circular for the 49th Special BCS on 21 July this year. Through this recruitment process, 683 posts will be filled in the general education cadre.

The highly competitive nature of government recruitment examinations has once again become evident. For the successful candidates, the next stage will be the viva voce, which will determine who ultimately receives appointment letters to the BCS cadre positions.
