State-owned flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has suspended flights on the Dhaka–Narita route from 1 July. The information was confirmed in a notice signed by the airline’s General Manager (Public Relations), A. B. M. Rawshan Kabir, on Sunday (18 May).

The notice stated that, in view of ongoing Hajj operations, aircraft shortages and commercial realities, flights on the Dhaka–Narita–Dhaka route will be suspended from 1 July.

Passengers who have purchased Biman tickets for travel to Narita after 1 July will receive a full refund. They have been asked to contact Biman’s own sales offices or counters, or their respective agents, to complete the refund process.

After being suspended for nearly 17 years, Biman resumed flights to Narita on 1 September 2023. However, the route did not prove to be as profitable as expected.

According to an internal report published by Biman Bangladesh Airlines last year, the route incurred losses of around Tk 200 million per month.
